Shared Housing

Shared Housing
Need housing?
Want to share rent expenses with others?
Need help with chores or personal care?

Shared Housing may be for you!

Shared housing is a matching and referral service that brings together people who need affordable housing with people who have an extra room in their home they wish to rent out in exchange for rent, household chores or personal care. This may be the income needed to help a home provider pay their mortgage and utility bills or the help needed in order to maintain independence.

Shared Housing provides an affordable option for home seekers without the deposits and fees required by many apartment complexes and rental companies. It’s also a great way to build positive rental history!

Screening Criteria
All participants of Shared Housing are pre-screened. Persons with convictions for crimes of violence, serious property offenses, manufacturing of drugs or drug convictions in the last two years are not eligible to participate

Program Fees
The one-time application fee is $10 to $50 according to annual income.

The Matching Process
  • Every participant is interviewed and must agree to a criminal background check and certify that they will not abuse alcohol or use illicit drugs.
  • Participants are asked questions that will help match them to someone with similar home share requirements.
  • Once applicants are matched, the parties are provided with non-identifying information about each other.
  • There are new participants every week. Participants may call back once a week for new matches.
Referral Service Only
The Shared Housing program is a matching and referral service only. We do not provide housing directly nor do we make any guarantees regarding the suitability of the housing or of individuals with whom you may be matched. Shared Housing is not responsible or liable for any costs or claims that might arise from the home sharing relationship.
