Volunteer Opportunities at Northeast Emergency Food Program
The Northeast Emergency Food Program (NEFP) provides nutritionally balanced food boxes for families and individuals in emergency situations.

Program Assistant: Assist staff with sorting food, packing food boxes and assisting guests, as well as helping to unload our weekly Oregon Food Bank delivery.

Bread Courier: Pick up bread from the Jantzen Beach Safeway once per week.

Garden Specialist/Water Watcher: The NEFP Garden Wants You to Water. NEFP needs regular water watchers to visit the garden, turn on the hose (already installed and waiting) and water each of our 20 garden beds. Skill in holding the hose and pulling the trigger on the nozzle OR setting up the sprinkler is mandatory. Pick your hours.

Garden Specialist/Weed Puller: The NEFP Garden has several hundred handfuls of extra weeds. Skill in bending/stooping/kneeling and extending arms to pull weeds is essential to this unique chore. We recommend not engaging in this task during times when the water watcher has the sprinkler working your garden bed. However, water play is acceptable if mutually agreeable. Pick your days/hours for picking your weeds.

Fourth Thursday Produce Distributor: NEFP hosts the Oregon Food Bank Harvest Share on the 4th Thursday of each month. Pitch in and organize our distribution tables and keep the produce available from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Vacation Specialist: NEFP volunteers are people with real lives, too. Many of these dedicated saints take vacations. We need several individuals to fill in behind our regulars during these well deserved breaks. Call the phone number below to take advantage of these special opportunities to fill food boxes, interview recipients, assemble food orders or unload trucks.
